Rap Up: New Music (2 Chainz, Chris Brown, Childish Gambino, Future, T.I., Troy Ave, Waka More)

by DG

I can barely type because I just seen a link to a Memphis Bleek mixtape and I’m in tears. Swerve is the new swag and that’s word to my man Waves. Stalley’s tape is still at the top of my playlist. Ciroc is still looking like the number 1 choice as we enter another season of thirst. Even typing the letters NCAA hurts due to Kendall Marshall wrist. I’m out.

Chris Brown – Oh Yeah (Prod. By Drumma Boy)

DJ Scream ft. 2 Chainz, Future, Gucci Mane & Waka Flocka – Hoodrich Radio Intro

Childish Gambino – Eat Your Vegetables

Mr. Muthaf*ckin’ eXquire – Position Of Passion

Video: Childish Gambino Interview w/Hard Knock TV

by DG

Go listen to the Camp album here then go buy it.

Exclusive in-depth interview with Childish Gambino AKA Donald Glover AKA Troy Barnes from show Community AKA mcDJ AKA Cheezy AKA Sir Durton AKA Cloud 9 AKA Ms. Long-Lady Stanhope AKA Bambini AKA Bam-B…As you can tell the man wears many hats. In part 1 Donald talks to Nick Huff Barili about how he got his rap name Childish Gambino from a Wu-Tang name generator. Donald states that he didn’t really get into hip hop until his senior year in HS, when he went from listening to Portishead to Pharcyde to Biggie to Eminem. Gambino goes on to talk about Hood Shit Vs Black shit, which he mentions on the song Outside of his new album Camp. The search to define Blackness is a constant theme in Camp.

Gambino thinks his album leaking will actually help and thinks the label did it on purpose as did Drakes. Donald addresses Drake comparisons saying that he could relate to Drake at first but that the lane Drake is in now he can’t relate to. Gambino says he is not cool enough to pull off the cigar in mouth look. If anything he could see comparisons to Mos Def more than to Drake.

We end part 1 with Gambino explaining with he uses the hashtag #FuckRapCool and why he wears Short Shorts.

We are just getting started, Nick talked to Donald for almost an hour. Part two will be up next week.

Magazine: Childish Gambino & Drake Interviews w/Billboard

by DG

Those of you that haven’t heard Childish Gambino’s album won’t understand… I think Camp is a better album, but I also thought Phonte’s album was better than J. Cole’s. What do I know though? I just run a “flake ass website” according to a kid that got 5k hits on a youtube video once. Somebody should have told him we did those numbers before dawn.

Read Childi… too long. Read here.

Album Stream: Childish Gambino – Camp

by DG

Donald Glover does the trill thing and let’s us stream his new album. I highly recommend you listening to this. It was hard for me to get past the image of Troy from NBC’s Community but once I did, I realized that Gambino is probably one of the best young rhymers out there. Be sure to cop it on November 15th.

The Weekly Cinco: 50 Cent, 9th Wonder, Gilbere Forte, Phonte & Pusha T

by DG

What a great week in music! Cole dropped, 9th Wonder dropped and the boy DG got me on Phonte’s new album, so you can blame my laziness on those releases. I didn’t pay much attention to any other music but I still have 5. I could easily choose them all from Cole’s album but I’m keeping him out of it this week.  It’s going be a fast one because I have to get back to Phonte… let’s go.

1. Gilbere Forte ft Big K.R.I.T- Black Soul

Gilbere is a beast and will be a star. Krit is on a mission to bring southern music back to the game. Put these two together and you get a good song with that country black soul feel.

2.50 cent- Love, Hate, Love
Fifty is back!!! …well at least the bully of hip-hop is back; not one of the best songs 50 ever made. Actually just an average 50 track, but still a must listen too for the week. The reason being; the shots hes giving – including at Weezy F Baby (F is for Fifty dissed me) and the women’s pants he be rocking. Its bout time someone did!

3. 9th Wonder feat. Warren G, Murs & Kendrick Lamar- Enjoy
I heard this song just minutes after I made last weeks edition so it had already been signed, sealed an delivered. It was too late then so here it is now. Good riding music – including 9th wonder, Warren G (that’s right Warren G) and the young spitta Lamar. As the name of the track says… sit back and ENJOY.

4. Pusha T- Dont Fuck With Me
One of my favorite artist who is signed to one of my favorite artist (isn’t it ironic?). Pusha is a monster; straight kills Aubrey’s song. Sounds like it’s a diss song but I don’t exactly know who it’s directed to. Rumors say he’s taking shots at Drizzy but I’m not here to speculate or start rumors. So to whomever it to, I’m sorry. I wouldn’t mess with Pusha… 10/15/2011. G.O.O.D Music

5. Phonte- Charity Stars at Home the whole album
Still finishing the album as I type, so didn’t think it was fair for me to just choose one track without finishing the album at least three times over. Very soulful beats on a well put together album. I would like to give my boy DG some props for putting me on it. Without it, I’d still be listening to Cole World and wouldn’t have reviewed this Phonte for another two weeks. This album should definitely get some spin in your playlist. Listen….

Well that’s it… I have to get back to my Zen green tea an this Charity Stars.. Keep it Moving.
Till Next week. D-Lop

DG’s Extra: Childish Gambino – Bonfire

You may recognize him from playing Troy on the NBC sitcom, Community. He might be a comedian but when it comes to these raps, Gambino ain’t playing. I would describe as being a punch-line rapper but his bars are heavy. If you’re a fan of the ‘pre-gutair Wayne’ I suggest you give this a spin.
