Sports: Derrick Rose Speaks On Trade Rumors, Lack Of Respect, Dwight Howard, The Refs & More

by DG

Derrick Rose joined ESPN Radio Chicago with Waddle and Silvy to talk about how healthy he is, if his injuries have changed the way he plays, what he makes of the Bulls not really getting the national respect, if the team has asked him about possible roster moves before the trade deadline, whether he has talked to Dwight Howard, on his frustration with the officiating, and what he means when he says he is going through something that no other superstar is, and more….

On the lack of respect for the Bulls:

“We’re never going to get it and we know that. We have a lot of belief in ourselves that we can go pretty far. We know we have a special team, we know that everybody in this organization and that’s a part of this franchise has one goal and that is to win a championship.”

What he thinks about the possibility of the Bulls making moves before the deadline:

“Right now I’m hoping everything will stay but you never know. I’m not the one calling the shots. I’m not trying to pay attention to the trade deadline or anything like that just trying to stay focused, trying to win these games while we’re here, and trying to get better as a team with the guys that are here.”

If the team has asked for his advice on potential deals:

“No, no. Not yet. I would say not yet. They never ask but I know if they did come to me I probably wouldn’t want to get in the conversation anyway.”

Whether he has talked to Dwight Howard:

“No I didn’t talk to him yet, I haven’t talked to him this season. Things have been crazy enough where I’ve been busy with my own things, busy with the Bulls, I know he’s staying busy with the trade deadline or whatever, and I’m just trying to stay focused man. You hear a lot of things but you never know what is going to happen until that day.”

On his frustration with the officiating lately:

“I just go out there and try to play hard. I keep hearing that I create the contact and I just try to fight through it. That’s all I try to do. Last night there were certain situations where things got pretty intense and I thought I was going to get the calls I was supposed to get and I didn’t and I guess I was seeing something that they weren’t and I can just try to play through it, play my game, and keep going.”

What do you mean when you say you’re going through something no other superstars go through?

“It’s not that. I think I create the contact of course but I guess I don’t yell or fight through it and I’m a strong player. I don’t do all the necessary things that people do when they get fouled I guess. I don’t know what to do.”

Mark Cuban & Drake debate who the greatest NBA team of all-time is. Drake argues The Miami HEAT haven’t hit their prime and will win countless championships! Lamar Odom might hoop in Los Angeles and appear on reality TV shows with his celebrity wife, but he hasn’t gone all the way Hollywood. In the new video “ALWAYS ON: LAMAR ODOM,” he takes viewers on a tour of the formative spots in Queens that shaped his game, his mentality and his life. Walk with him down Jamaica Avenue, see him practicing his handles at Frederick B. Judge Park and join him as he satisfies his famed sweet tooth at an ice cream truck. Lamar’s homecoming is accompanied by Stalley’s exclusive track “Born to Win.”

In the pass-happy world of professional football, lockdown cornerbacks like Darrelle Revis are the most prized of commodities. Here, in the latest Nike Sportswear “ALWAYS ON” video, viewers get a glimpse of the dedication it takes to earn the nickname “Revis Island”— his personal term for smothering a receiver in one-on-one coverage. We see Darrelle doing intricate footwork drills, batting down countless passes, and jogging through the tree-lined streets of New Jersey. And after working out to near exhaustion, he unwinds by playing drums and hitting the streets of New York City’s Lower East Side. The video is backed by the track “Island of Greatness,” by Jesse Boykins III.

Sports: Jay-Z Announces Brooklyn Nets… “Moving the Nets to BK.”

by DG

This guy has to be the coolest person on the planet. The way he side-steps personal questions is an art form. After hearing about it for some years now the New Jersey Nets are finally making the move and changing the name. More below…

MYFOXNY.COM – When hip-hop mogul Jay Z has something to say, fans listen.

On Monday morning, the Brooklyn native announced that the NBA Nets would have a new name once they take the court at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn in approximately one year.

“We’ve decided that the final name would be the Brooklyn Nets,” said the rapper who grew up only minutes away at the Marcy Houses and later at 560 State Street.

“I’m giddy right now.”

The Center which has seen its share of controversy from local residents who opposed its development will host a wide range of events from NBA games to college basketball to major concerts.

“I’m going to open the building with a couple of concerts… maybe like eight,” said Jay Z.

“This is something for everybody. This will have something in all price ranges. I think it’s going to be the most beautiful arena in the world,” added developer Bruce Rattner.

The rapper, music industry titan, husband of singer Beyonce and soon-to-be-dad, will now have plenty of reason to come back to his old borough. He told Good Day New York’s Rosanna Scotto that he was proud of his involvement with Barclays.

“It’s already created so many jobs… there are lots of vendors,” added Jay Z speaking from the plaza at Atlantic Terminal overlooking the Center.

‘When you’re from Brooklyn there is a certain moxie you have… a certain confidence,” said Rosanna Scotto.

“I like that. You know what it is, it’s deep love. Biggie had a line ‘spread love that’s the Brooklyn way. It’s a deep love we have for our heroes. We walk around with that,” added Jay Z whose real name is Sean Carter.

As for any surprises yet to come from the mogul and NBA heavy-hitter, “the Nets will have new colors, but we’re not ready to announce that yet.”

The 18,000-seat arena will have luxurity suites designed by Jay Z.

“We’re about 50 percent sold,” said Brooklyn Nets CEO Brett Yormark speaking with Good Day New York.
