“The Best Man was the right film at the right time. There were few films prior or since that film that spoke to the generation of African-Americans who I knew, lived, worked, loved and laughed with. I’ve been gratefully astounded over the years at the audience response to the film. People have often asked “Whatever happened to those characters? Did Jordan ever find a man? Does Murch stay with Candy? Do Lance and Mia live happily ever after?” I have never really taken the time to answer those questions. But they keep getting asked and in light of how it is in heavy rotation on cable TV it very well may be a sign that those questions need to be answered.”

Beyoncé Knowles is headed back to the big screen and into the familiar territory of playing an aspiring singer-turned-superstar. According to Deadline, Knowles will star in a remake of “A Star Is Born,” to be directed and produced by Oscar winner Clint Eastwood for Warner Bros.
The remake will be the fourth telling of the “A Star Is Born” tale, the most memorable in recent years being the 1976 version with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson as star-crossed lovers of sorts. It is also worth mentioning that the producers of that film, Billy Gerber and Jon Peters, are also attached to this new project. It is said to be a full-on musical with production set to begin sometime in the fall.
Naturally, the plot details are under wraps, but the original story revolves around an aspiring singer who meets and falls in love with a troubled, failing former star who helps get the young ingénue her big break in the business.

In his latest keep-it-in-the-family move, Will Smith is exploring with Sony the potential for a remake of the musical “Annie,” with daughter Willow as the star, sources say.
Smith, who developed “The Karate Kid” starring his son Jaden, would produce through his Overbrook shingle.
While details about the “Annie” retooling are still in development stages, rapper Jay-Z, who worked with Willow on her pop hit “Whip My Hair,” is in talks to collaborate on the music.
Project reps were tight-lipped about whether the pic would be a contemporary version and whether it will include any original songs.
Sony’s summer hit “Karate Kid” made more than $350 million worldwide and likely helped pave the way for exploring new ground with the “Annie” redo.
